Famatina: el triunfo de la ciudadanía

La Fundación Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (FARN) celebra la decisión del gobierno de La Rioja y la empresa Osisko Mining Corporation de rescindir el contrato para el proyecto minero en Famatina.

La decisión fue autorizada por el Decreto Nº 874 del Poder Ejecutivo Provincial en el día de ayer hasta que se logre consenso social. Este es un triunfo para los ciudadanos de Famatina que desde el 2011 se encuentran manifestando en contra del mencionado proyecto minero de modo pacífico y en defensa de su derecho a un ambiente sano, protegiendo al agua como recurso fundamental para el desarrollo de los pobladores de la zona frente a los altos impactos de la megaminería.

Es importante recordar las amenazas, persecuciones y represión sufridas por los manifestantes debido a su oposición a dicho proyecto, por ello instamos a las autoridades de la Rioja que tomen las medidas necesarias para que hechos como los antes mencionados no vuelvan a suceder.

Por último, remarcamos la necesidad de realizar un amplio debate democrático respecto de la actividad minera, con participación de todos los sectores involucrados, en un marco de pleno cumplimiento y respeto por las garantías constitucionales, ya que existen otras poblaciones en similares condiciones que reclaman ser escuchadas por sus representantes.
